Melissa Dickenson, the former Awagami's visiting artist is selected to one of the finalists of Sondheim Prize award.


Melissa Dickenson, who stayed at Awagami in April 2007 as a visiting artist, was selected as one of six finalists of 2008 Sondheim Prize award.

Melissa had stayed at our mill for a whole month of April 2007, she worked on WASHI making, drawing and stitching on the paper she made.  Her work, which will be exhibited to the Baltimore Museum of Art for an exhibition of the finalists, was made while she stayed at our mill.

The award winner will be presented in July 12(Sat) 2008.

Produced under the auspices of Artscape, The Janet & Walter Sondheim Prize grants $25,000 to a visual artist working in the Baltimore region.  Finalists exhibit at the BMA (June 21 - August 3).  Semi-finalists exhibit at the Maryland Institute College of Art (July 17 - August 2).
