UNIVERSITY / PRIVATE GROUP WORKSHOPS:

Awagami has the ability to tailor make workshops for students, clubs and organizations interested in washi papermaking and indigo dyeing. Maison & Objet 2022

Awagami plans to return to the January 2022 edition of Paris' most anticipated show, Maison & Objet.  Our booth will exude a sense of organic warmth and Japanese charm.  Collection highlights will include our natural "A-Wall" washi wall coverings +  a new collaborative Art Panels collection and a curated assortment of the mills famed indigo accessories. We welcome you to visit us in Paris and enjoy the natural beauty of Japanese washi paper

AWAGAMI VISITING ARTIST PROGRAM (ARTIST PAYS) TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED UNTIL FUTHER NOTICE

Awagami offers a Visiting Artist Program for artists wishing to use the mills facilities to expand their washi skills and create washi-based artworks. Applicants must submit an application for jurying.

Please be as specific as possible in your art proposal, including sketches of the work you wish to create during your time at Awagami. Also provide your website where we may see an accurate representation of your prior artwork (If you do not have a website, please send photos). The condition of acceptance may be different from previous cases dependent on factory's production schedule.  Please note, participating artists are requested to donate 1 artwork (artist proof) upon completion of program. 

 

ACCOMODATION

Visiting artist can use the mills nearby guesthouse and are responsible for maintaining the premises. Basic cooking, utensils and bedding are provided. Artists are responsible for purchasing their own food and replacing any items used up during their stay. 

 

EXPENSES

There is a standard ¥8,000/day fee charged. Artists are expected to pay for the expenses of their production in addition to this standard fee - including raw material cost, making new tools and/or purchasing special materials or equipment. Artists can use our printmaking studio at no extra cost (etchings, monotypes, relief prints, etc.). Artists wishing to make high-quality inkjet prints can also do so in our printmaking studio for a nominal fee.

 

 

All fees must be paid in full the morning of the he artists 2nd to last day. We accept either Japanese Yen (cash) or VISA / MasterCard.

 

OTHER CONDITIONS

-Working space and tools will be shared with other workers at the mill.
-Do not use materials, tools and chemicals without permission.
-When you need materials or tools, please fill out the request form and submit it to us.  Please submit the request in advance since the preparation of material may take some time.

Please be punctual for working: 9:00AM ~ 16:00PM (Tuesday-Sunday).  Artists should finish their daily work on time and leave by 17:00PM after cleaning work space & tools. Artists may work in guesthouse during evenings.

 

END OF YOUR VISIT

If you have remaining materials, please bring them home or leave them at the mill and notify the office.  (no refunds for remaining materials). Artist must pack up their artworks / Awagami will provide packing materials (There'll be a charge for new boxes.) Shipping is handled through Yamato or Sagawa in Japan and via EMS Post (air or sea) internationally. If you ship outside of Japan, please finish the packing prior to 15:00PM on your 2nd to last day and pay shipping fee.
